We know... Cleaning your fridge is a task we will all put off until later, but cleaning your fridge is an essential task to maintain food safety and hygiene. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean your fridge effectively
Follow this guide to get your fridge fresh and free from fury foes...
1. Preparation:
Empty the fridge: Start by removing all the food items from the refrigerator. Place them in a cooler with ice packs to keep them cool while you clean.
Turn off the fridge: Unplug the refrigerator or turn off the power to ensure safety during the cleaning process.
2. Remove Shelves and Drawers:
Take out all the removable shelves, drawers, and any other detachable components from the fridge.
3. Wash Shelves and Drawers:
Wash the shelves and drawers with warm soapy water. You can also add a few drops of dish soap or use a mild cleaning solution. Scrub away any stains or spills.
4. Clean the Interior:
Wipe down the interior of the fridge using a mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar. This solution is effective at removing stains, odors, and killing bacteria.
Pay special attention to the areas around the door seals, as these can collect dirt and grime.
For tough stains, you can create a paste using baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the stain, let it sit for a few minutes, and then scrub gently with a soft brush or sponge.
5. Clean the Door:
Clean the refrigerator door and handle using the same vinegar and water solution.
Be sure to wipe down any control panels or buttons carefully.
6. Clean the Freezer:
If your fridge has a separate freezer compartment, clean it using the same steps as the refrigerator interior.
Be sure to defrost the freezer if there is any ice buildup. This will also help with cleaning.
7. Dry and Replace:
After cleaning, use a clean cloth or paper towels to dry all surfaces thoroughly.
Let the shelves and drawers air dry completely before putting them back in the fridge.
8. Reorganize and Restock:
Before placing the food back into the fridge, check expiration dates and discard any spoiled or expired items.
Organize the food items neatly, and try to group similar items together.
9. Clean the Exterior:
Wipe down the exterior of the fridge, including the top, sides, and back, using a damp cloth and mild soap.
10. Plug in and Power On:
Once everything is clean and dry, plug the fridge back in and turn on the power.
Regularly cleaning your fridge, ideally every few months, will help keep it in top condition, eliminate bad odors, and ensure your food stays fresh and safe.
